Ready for Spring

I am so ready for Spring to get here. I put out 9 broccoli plants and 5 lettuce plants. I had planned to get my red onions sets out and move my walking onions last Saturday. It was gorgeous out but I was sick. :(

I have made up a couple of recipes this last week I will have to write them out and put them up.

I am trying to get back to some of the more frugal ways we use to live.
Here are a few that I am trying to get back to:
making my own bread
cooking from scratch
not eating out as much
hang clothes out
grow and preserve our food
using coupons for everything we use

I know there are more things we could be doing right now I just can't think of them. This list is my immediate goals.

Through the end of the month we are going to be spring cleaning inside and outside. We have stuff to keep, sell and donate. I would also like to do some remodeling and put new flooring down, get walls painted, get pantry set up and more. Not sure how much we will get done but kids have spring break in less than 2 weeks so I will have helpers.

Have any of you all set any goals or made to do lists of things you are wanting to get done?

By the end of summer I would like to be well on my way of turning my whole yard into a garden. Huge goal huh? It is possible if set up right and it would be fairly easy to maintain.

Salsa Recipe

My friend Debbie gave me this great salsa recipe.

10-12 large tomatoes
3 cups onions
1 1/2 - 2 jalapenos (with 1/2 or all seeds)
1 1/2 cups green peppers
3 tsp. canning salt
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp. cilantro

Skin tomatoes place in large pot. Add diced vegetables mush all together. Add vinegar then salt, sugar and cilantro. Cover heat til boiling, reduce heat to medium and cook for 30 minutes. Let cool.

I put this in quart size freezer bags and froze it. My family loves this.

Trying Again.

I am going to try blogging about our life and what we do to save money and time. I forget most of the time to blog. I want to share Jesus first and foremost, farming, gardening, canning, recipes, good buys, tips, tricks and what ever else might help you in your life's journey.

We lost all our chickens to predators a few years back. I really miss fresh eggs so we have gotten some chicks to start having eggs again this summer. We are also going to start raising a breed of swine that is almost extinct.

I am working on the garden spots to get ready to start planting. I just got 2 kinds of strawberries to plant, broccoli, lettuce and red onions. My walking onions have barely survived so they will be transplanted to a new bed this year.

I will put up pictures as we go to show what all we are doing. The last few years we had opened a store so things around here got neglected. We have now closed the store. There is major work to be done outside to get everything back in shape.

My goal is to turn my front yard into a herb/produce garden. That is going to take lots of hard work and some great ideas for some areas in the front yard.

I will also list things on here that we will be selling. We still have a bunch of stuff from our store that has got to go. I also crochet so on occasion I will put up items I make.

If there is anything that you would like to see or discuss please comment and we will see what we can do to cover it.

I hope you all have a most blessed day.
