We are not making new year resolutions this year, we are setting doable goals. I am not starting hard here cause I want to succeed. So the topics we are setting them in are: financial, farming, healthy living, and spiritual. All these categories really go hand in hand.
Financially we are looking at cutting out expenses and building our savings. I have a list of things to help us do this,
Farming we are putting out more food this year and canning more.
Healthy living means changing our diets and getting more exercise. Stop using processed food and chemical laden products.
Spiritual growing closer in our walk with Jesus.
Here are a few things I am going to try this year.
soap making: castile and coconut soaps
lotion: I have found recipes that are all natural and fairly easy to make.
lip balm: how great to be able to make your own.
deodorant: you can even put these in deodorant containers.
We are definitely going to have more herbs this years. I really want to plant potatoes again also. Having a place to store root vegetables is really a need for us.
Here is a list of vegetables I want to try growing this year:
carrots
chard
sweet potatoes
cabbage
cauliflower
turnips
onions
Our usual garden consists of:
tomatoes
beans
corn
okra
peppers(big variety)
cucumbers
watermelon
squash
zucchini
We eat a lot of stir fry with rice or couscous. We eat squash and zucchini year round in all our stir fries and omelets.
Last year I didn't can. I never seemed to find the time. Well, this year the time will be made.
I usually can:
salsa
rotel type tomatoes
beans
jelly(variety)
spaghetti sauce
I freeze:
okra
beans
corn
In the past I have canned pintos and potatoes.
I would like to can all the different types of dried beans I usually use.
black, pinto, white, kidney, red
I know this seems like a lot but truly if we work it will not be so bad. Just can't get lazy and procrastinate.
God called us to be dependent on Him not the government or our jobs. That is where I want to be depending on Him to feed us and help us live the healthy life He needs us to live.
I will keep you updated on my progress.
God Bless!
